In running, the artists are interested in phenomena such as repetition, rhythm, the influence of the environment, routine, and community. Iida Valkonen has, for several years, explored the recording of movement into drawing by combining photography, moving image, and drawn lines in her art. Milla Toukkari works with printmaking, text, installations, and collage. She investigates the nature of printed image as a generator of concepts. In addition, both artists \u2013 especially Toukkari \u2013 have years of experience in long-distance running. In Cursor<\/em>, the artists\u2019 working methods merge into a spatial documentation of the event of running. They call the video work a documentation, as it records the transformation of running into another form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Valkonen and Toukkari began their collaboration in 2022, and Cursor<\/em> was filmed in spring 2024 in Nuuksio National Park. The work was filmed and edited in collaboration with Kim Saarinen. The video piece was first presented as a single-channel version at Vaasa Art Hall gallery in spring 2025. The installation on display at GalleriA is a spatial exploration of how the perception of both the body and the environment changes during running. The artists see the work as a mutable and evolving whole that includes moving image, sound, prints, and objects related to the process. In the coming years, the work will be exhibited not only in Kuopio but also in cities such as Oulu and H\u00e4meenlinna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Join a community run led by the artists on Saturday, August 30th, from 14 to 15 pm! During the run, participants will have the opportunity to create their own running drawings and contribute to a collective artwork that documents the running drawings of different participants. The starting point is GalleriA.
