Kuopio Art Museum will close its doors for renovation from 2 September to 11 November 2024. This is the final chance to experience the museum’s popular summer exhibitions before the doors are locked. All public spaces at the Kuopio Art Museum will be closed during the renovation period.
The renovation will bring significant improvements to the museum’s facilities, but it will also mean that the museum’s doors will be closed to the public for more than a month. The renovation will not only include basic maintenance work, but also the start of construction work on the future Olotila space and the preparation of the second-floor exhibition space for the new main exhibition.
Kuopio Art Museum’s summer exhibitions Paradise – Collection Kakkonen & Marianne Huotari, Ninni Luhtasaari, Pekka Paikkari and Armi Teva and Sauma – Fashion in Art, Art in Fashion have reached great popularity. They are open until 1 September. The exhibitions offer a unique overview of both Finnish art ceramics and the dialogue between art and fashion.
The art lending service Kuopion taidelainaamo, GalleriA and the Museum Shop will reopen on 11 October, when Johanna Pöykkö exhibition opens in GalleriA. On 18 October 2024, the street-level exhibition space of the art museum will open with the opening of The Rebellion of the Panels – The Many Forms of Contemporary Comics. Renovations will continue in the upstairs exhibition space, where construction will begin on the new basic exhibition to open in autumn 2025.
